Ain’t Misbehavin’ S1 E2

First UK air date: 4 August 1997 (ITV)

Episode 2 of 3

As German bombers blitz London, Eddie rushes to check on the well-being of his new sweetheart, Red Cross nurse Dolly Nightingale.

Meanwhile, Eric in private eye mode has to bluff his way out of a confrontation with the Glasgow boys. In search of Dolore’s black book, Eric persuades Eddie to drive him in a borrowed motorbike and sidecar to where the Scottish gang are hanging out, diverting the guard dog with the pet cat of his landlady Mrs Jilkes.

It all goes badly wrong as the alarm is raised; Eric escapes in a truck with RAF markings as Eddie suffers one of his blackouts.

Still in the truck, Eric is driven into an RAF deep earth dump – an Aladdin’s cave stuffed with wartime goods.

Back at the Coco Club, bandleader Smiles is concerned about Eric’s disappearance as Eddie volunteers to go on stage as singer instead.

Having escaped through a ventilation shaft, Eric finally arrives at the club and competes with Eddie for the mic. To his horror he discovers his mother, Clara Von Trapp, in the audience, furious that her son is not performing with a high-brow orchestra.
